Your birds will enjoy plenty of food while perched at the base of this 11" tall bird feeder.
All of what I build here is made from "rescued" cedar wood. Reclaimed, repurposed, recycled, whatever the current tag is, all woods were either taken from or saved from waste. This job normally involves a lot of nail-pulling. Those nails that can't be found by the naked eye I find with an inexpensive metal detector, and extract them by drilling around the nail and prying it out. Most often, this reclaimed wood is of better quality than what you may find at the store, but you may find a bit of mineral staining or complete nail holes, evidence of the wood's age.
I use western red cedar, mainly. It contains properties that make it hold up in wet environments probably better than any other wood. It also has a nice straight grain and wonderful scent, and I like the color. It's a bit different from eastern aromatic cedar.
No live trees were ever sawn down for these products, which I am sure the birds will appreciate as much as you or I.
Snug-fitting roof and overall design will help keep squirrels out, but easy to re-fill, simply pull the roof up and pour in the seed. UV resistant plastic hopper will stand up in the elements.
I carefully craft these from re-milled old growth cedar wood for performance. The frame that surrounds the base of the feeder is glued and nailed in place.
Green vinyl-coated cable comes with hoop and eye screw from which to hang it.
Like most of my woodwork, this item ships with minimal packaging, just enough protection to carry it safely to your door, and whenver possible, 100% post-consumer use.

Hi, Andrew. I've been off the computer for a few days, but this is the first time I've seen you post an entry since I added you to my list, weeks ago. You need to blog more. I am fascinated with wood works, but I could never make anything as refined as your work.
oh, very nice!
