Bats, just like humans, are mammals. All bats are warm-blooded, and bear young which feed from their mothers just like human babies. Females generally have one offspring at a time, and their season is usually springtime.
Flying our night skies for over 50 million years, the bat has been one of our most amazing yet least respected or appreciated animals. With accurate and powerful echolocation, bats produce detailed images of their surroundings, even in absolute darkness.
Almost 3/4 of the world's bats are insect eaters. Many insectivorous bats can eat up to 1,000 mosquito-sized insects per night. Others eat fruit, or vertebrates such as frogs, birds, and rodents. Only a few species of bats consume blood exclusively.
There is still no definitive answer as to why bat populations are on the decline. Loss of habitat is commonly believed to be the main reason.
Bats require conditions for a suitable roost that modern building methods rarely supply. Warmth, protection from predators, and shelter from rain are some of the bat's needs.
This bat house design was based on a mixture of input from industry guidelines, availability of appropriate quality recycled building materials, and customer input for easier installation.
Made from 100% post-consumer waste, which is not only more eco friendly, bats love it too! Bats have been shown to prefer old wood roosts over new!
